In our behaviour, attitudes and dealings with others, we have an obligation, not least by virtue of being a follower of Christ, to show that we respect, uphold, and defend the rights, dignity, and worth of every human being.
We strive to implement the teaching of Jesus to love our neighbour as ourselves. All our parish activities are to be guided by absolute and unconditional respect for others. We believe that this especially applies to children and young people as they place their trust in the adults assigned to the parish activities in which they participate.
It is also our view that this same respect, protection, and support must also extend and equally apply to any other vulnerable groups or individuals in the Parish, for example, the elderly and the marginalised.
We believe that people working with children and young people are well and properly motivated. Nevertheless, it is both necessary and prudent to have policies and procedures in place through which children and young people, and all vulnerable groups, can be safe and, if necessary, express their concerns confident that these concerns will be properly addressed and resolved with their interests in mind.
It is also fundamentally important and implicit in the application of these policies that the interests and the rights of involved adults must also be safeguarded and upheld.
A full copy of the Child Protection Policy is available on request in the Church Sacristies.
